He built the program from the ground up and has spent more than 25 years coaching divers of every age and ability. What has never changed for him is the rush of watching an athlete attempt something for the very first time. A kid at the edge of the three meter board and an elite diver going for the biggest dive of their career are living the same moment. The nerves are the same. The anxious energy is real. He knows because he felt it as a competitor, and he feels it again every time one of his athletes walks to the end of the board. He does not see a dive as one movement to be copied. He coached high school gymnastics for seventeen years, including a state title at Poudre in 1984. He is the longest-standing FIG official in the United States and a member of two Halls of Fame. In 1975 he founded a gymnastics camp high in the Rockies that ran for fourteen summers and drew Olympians and national champions from across the country, building relationships that quietly support Norco Diving to this day. But the reason CHSAA honored him in 2017 had nothing to do with any of that. Across more than fifty years, he never stopped showing up for the high school gymnasts nobody else was watching, the ones at the end of their competitive road, and they received the same honest feedback as anyone he judged on a national stage. A graduate of Fort Collins High School, where he holds the school's 11-dive record, Brendan went on to compete as a student-athlete at Denison University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology. His time at Denison was marked by individual achievement and team excellence alike. He earned NCAA All-American honors and was a member of the Denison program during its back-to-back NCAA Division III Championship seasons in 2025 and 2026, placing 9th on 1-meter at the 2026 Championships. He earned four-year varsity letter awards at both the high school and collegiate levels.
